Mainly About Hair

Let’s talk about hair.

I’ve been meaning to write about this for awhile, but I wanted to make sure I gave my experiment long enough to know if it’s a good idea or not. After six months I’ve found that it’s an excellent idea. I do not shampoo my hair; in fact, I haven’t since January. You may already do this, or know about the harsh chemicals that are found in shampoo products. If you haven’t made the jump to ditch shampooing, I want to encourage you to do it! I use a mixture of baking soda and water to wash my hair and I only use it on my scalp. It works like a charm.

When I first started, it was really weird. There was no silky bubbles or perfume that I was used to. Also, for about two weeks I had oily hair. That was awkward, but it passed. For so long shampoo was striping my locks of their natural oils. When I stopped shampooing my hair was still working over time to produce oils. After two weeks, my hair was like, “Hey, she’s not striping our oils anymore…we like her.” Okay, so maybe maybe my hair can’t talk, but if it could it would thank me.

Since not shampooing my hair has grown faster, stronger and it rarely falls out. When I shampooed after washing my hair, tons of hairs would fall out. That’s really sad, but not anymore. My hair is happy happy and so am I.

Edit: I condition with apple cider vinegar or Trader Joe’s organic conditioner.

Mustard + Red

Dress: Handmade by me // Tights: Target // Shoes: Forever 21 // Purse: Vintage // Jacket: Macy’s // Scarf: thrifted

Mustard + Red — probably my favourite colour combination. As soon as I saw this fabric in the store I knew it was destined to be a dress and to be paired with red. Lately, I’ve had the bug for sewing more dresses… and seeing this picture makes it impossible to think about anything else. On that note, I’ll say this: I never thought I would EVER be able to sew clothes. There was a time when a sewing machine terrified me. If you are interested in sewing, take my advice and sew! Just sew. It’s sort of like learning a new language; you can learn grammar for years, but you won’t be able to speak the language until you start speaking it.

If you want to sew, start sewing!

Cheers!

Bright Lovely Red

Giggles. I couldn’t help myself.

When it comes to being serious and taking photo’s, I’m not very good at it.

Which is where the photographer comes in at. I’m happy Dominic Gray was able to take photo’s despite my constant giggling.

P.S. If you’re from North Carolina Dominic Gray Photography is excellent.

A little about this dress…

I’m in love with it. It’s from Heart My Closet. The Annie dress is my third purchase from this shop and I couldn’t be happier with it. I think I finally found a length that suits my height and the measurements were perfect! This fabric is RED! Bright lovely red, it makes my heart happy.

I hope you enjoyed looking at these photo’s! This was my first official photo shoot and I must say I had no idea it was going to be such hard work. This was in late September, so it was a little too hot and for me the biggest hurdle was simply not laughing!

I am so grateful for the opportunity and the experience!

Cheers,

Marilyn Red

Recently I was gifted MAC’s Marilyn Monroe red lacquer…best gift ever. I painted my nails days ago and there have been no chips so far. It’s hard and I feel like my nails are super protected! Be careful when you apply it to your nail, it’s hard to get the lacquer off your skin!

I don’t post what I wore as often as I would like. It really is fun to keep up with; I’ve looked back in my archives before and enjoyed seeing how I’ve changed my style over the years!

Dress: handmade by yours truly // Jumper: vintage // Purse: TJ Maxx …but the doilies were sewn by me
