I’ve wanted to replace our bookshelf for awhile. I couldn’t find anything I really liked until I found these crates at Michael’s. I was the girl in the middle of the aisle stacking crates to see if it would work and imagining how it would look. It looked great so I bought six and this is what I did:

I did one coat of ebony wood finish. *If you like this wood finish don’t stir the can, if you do your finish will be black and not rustic. Allow a few days to fully dry and then BAM! You have a new bookshelf.

I’m so happy with the way it turned out. There’s nothing like a small library in your living room to make it cozy, but you don’t have to make this a bookshelf, you could display anything you like. Happy nesting!

Love the idea. How expensive are the crates?

Thank you! Each crate was $13 :) Michaels usually have coupons every week!

I think I’m going to buy some of these and make nightstands. Two stacked for each one? I’ll have to see the crates in person to be sure. Hopefully my Michaels has them! ^_^

That’s a great idea and would look lovely. I used another crate recently to hold our vinyl’s, they’re very useful!

Oh fun! I recently did a night standish diy with crates, I’m sharing it on Monday! I think two stacked would look lovely. Walmart also sells these crates!

Did you simply stack the crates or, did you use liquid glue or screws to attach the crates to one another? Was it sturdy enough this way?

I stacked the crates. The weight of all of my books help secure the crates in place :)
