Edge of Spring

March 1, 2014

12 13 26 cosy crochet here comes the sun Take Heart vinly loveI’ve always loved this quote from Charles Dickens; he explains the edge of spring so well.

“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.”
— Charles Dickens, Great Expectations

Spring —I’m looking forward to meeting her. The sun will shine brighter and daylight will last longer. More walks, spontaneous bicycle adventures, and picnics in the park on 4th street. Our local farmers market will open again and baseball season is around the corner. Oh, and peonies at Trader Joe’s. Le sigh, spring brings some pretty happy things, but until then Old Man Winter is still knocking on my door. Which is actually great, so I can’t complain. I have a few Red Autumn projects + a secret project in the hopper and I need all the time I can get to work; sunshine distractions would not be helpful!

…but it’s Saturday and I’m going take a break from work and check a little something off of my list of things to do: get a tattoo!

Ah! I’m terrified, and excited!

I can’t wait for spring! Cherry Blossom trees are native to Asia, and I can’t wait to see them. What kind of tattoo are you going to get? I have five!

I’ve always wanted to see Cherry Blossom trees! I visited China in the winter and was bummed I wouldn’t see them. —I got a tea pot, haha! The same tea pot on my header and similar to the tea pot pin you gave me. Okay, it’s addictive. I totally want more and have two ideas for what I want. What tattoos do you have?!

those tulips are just gorgeous! I love this time of year, I think the anticipation of spring is so fun, noticing all the little signs that spring is coming. Our trees must’ve all bloomed overnight here, because I swear I didn’t notice they were even budded and then all at once they’ve all bloomed! I LOVE peonies, I’m going to have to find out if our Trader Joe’s here gets them too! I can’t wait to hear about your secret project and see your new tattoo!

It was 70 degrees yesterday, so amazing! Today it is chilly and rainy, March is fickle! That’s always how it happens, isn’t it? Overnight these things happen and then BAM everything is green and pretty! I’m piecing together a video today of my tattoo adventure! Can’t wait to share it with you!

I have a fairy on my back throwing a handful of flowers into the air. Later on I added to it and now it’s surrounded by six big flowers. It covers most of my mid to lower back. Then I have a butterfly on one hip, and on the other hip I have a dragon fly with skulls in the wings. I also have a very unfortunate dolphin at the very top of my bum. I thought that was really cool at 18, but 33 not so much. It’s the only one I regret. I’m thinking about getting a stack of books on my ribs with a cup of coffee on top, because I love to read and drink coffee! I love your teapot!

All of your tattoos sound very pretty, even the dolphin! Dolphin’s are like the happiest animals ever. I went through a dolphin stage as well in high school; I had dolphin everything! A stack of books + cup of coffee sounds amazing, what a great idea!
