Nothing could be better.
“I can’t imagine a man really enjoying a book and reading it only once.”
― C.S. Lewis
Since last autumn I’ve been reading The Lord of the Rings. Who knows how many times I’ve read it. I first read the tale when I was thirteen and thirteen years later I find myself reading it over and over. I know what will happen, but I cry and laugh all the same. My poor book is full of cookie, tea and tear stains. It is so well loved and falling apart. Thankfully Stephen taped it up for me. Anyway, you may be wondering why I’ve been reading it since autumn, well I will tell you. I always (shamefully) stop reading the story when a character ‘dies‘ …I can’t seem to move forward. I mourn with the characters. It’s sad.
After reading Tolkien’s Letters I picked The Lord of the Rings up again and I’ve been in Middle Earth since dragging my feet along with the company, wondering how we’re going to defeat Mordor. It’s a gift really, naa it’s a superpower, to be able to forget the ending and start over again. And while all this is happening the rain has been so kind to be background music to my adventure.
I finished the chapter Treebeard last night. He’s one of my favourites (they’re all my favourite). I made this print a few months ago and I love it.
Do you have a favourite book or movie that you go back to over and over? I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in this… there are others out there with the same superpower.
