You may already know this if you follow me on instagram, but here’s the update on our New Adventure! We moved into a charming cottage a few bike-able minutes from downtown and we love it! We named our new home Apple Cottage and honestly couldn’t be more happy here. So moving into/decorating a house is so different compared to loft living. I stuck to my personal rule: “If you like it there, it looks good” I’m always second guessing myself, and like I said in this post your personal style make a house your home! So, I maintained our style throughout Apple Cottage and I’m surprised with how soon it felt like home to us.
When I first saw this built in hutch I thought, “Hmm, that’s nice.” I honestly had no idea I would love this hutch so much. I crammed *most* of my pyrex on the shelves…I have a bit of a pyrex obsession.
It took me three days to unpack! And friends, I’m exhausted. That hasn’t kept me from planning paint colors for each room ;) The walls desperately need new paint and a good cleaning as we say here in the south. I have Moonshine by Benjamin Moore picked out for the main room and dining room. And I need to do more research on the perfect white for our bedroom. The bedroom doesn’t have natural lighting, so any white with red or yellow undertones would make the walls pale yellow. I need to find whites with gray, blue or green undertones, I’m looking for a crisp pure white. I’m considering Snow White by Benjamin Moore, but any suggestions would be so nice! The wall above the fireplace is huge! One of the advantages of downloadable prints is you can print them as big as you like! Which is what I did for this print above—it’s 11×14. You can download this print here.
Cottage life is strikingly different from city living. I wasn’t expecting this, because we are seriously minutes away from downtown. I know our little downtown isn’t that big (compared to Charlotte—we lived in uptown for six months), but it’s still noisy. Also, it is seriously lacking trees and flowers. Apple Cottage is surrounded by trees, and flowers right outside our door. One of the best parts is we can hear the local church hymn bell at 12pm and 6pm. I grew up singing hymns and still prefer them to modern songs… so that was icing on the cake :) There’s no doubt, we have a lot of work to do to make Apple Cottage more comfortable, but that’s half the fun ;) Stephen and I have a lot of projects planned for this year and I can’t wait to share them!
For those of you who have congratulated us, thank you!! All your sweet emails, comments and messages have been THE best ever! My heart is so full, thank you.

Benjamin Moore Chantilly lace is a true crisp white . I used it in my son ‘s bedroom (facing North) and it is bright and cheery ( I added grey stripes on 1 wall) . xxx

So I stopped by Benjamin Moore and I love Chantilly Lace. Thank you for the suggestion! I may go with that one, it’s down to that and Snow White! The gray stripes sound lovely!

Moonshine is such a pretty color, and who could resist the color Snow White? It seems destined. I may be watching too many Disney movies these days but while reading this whole post the “Little Patch of Heaven” song from Home on the Range kept playing in my mind. “I know a place, pretty as pie….” Definitely describes your little slice of heaven! The church bell really is the icing on the cake, so quaint! I’ve always loved hymns too, in fact, that’s what I’ve always sung to Mia for her lullabies :) Now that all the unpacking is done you can sit back on that pretty little porch with a big glass of iced tea and enjoy your beautiful gardens and birdsong!

You need to write a book, I love the way you describe everything! It is so beautiful! I love that you sing Mia hymns! I’m a firm believer in watching Disney movies, so there’s no such thing as too many ;)
