Remember that time I told you I want to be a beekeeper? Well, I still want to bee a beekeeper! Until then, I try to support bees as much as I can. Bees are so amazing, I discuss a little about that here.
Today I’m going to show you how to make lip balm from beeswax, honey and coconut oil; so basically it’s homemade Burt’s Bees lip balm! And here’s the best part, you will make enough to share with your family and friends. And you will even have left over beeswax to make candles, hello!
You will need beeswax, coconut oil, local honey (not pictured), and lip balm containers. Optional: peppermint essential oil. I actually forgot to add this in my mixture, but I’m happy I did —I really like the smell of honey!
In a double broiler melt two tablespoons each of beeswax, coconut oil and honey. After it’s melted you will want to check the consistency with a spoon. Your lip balm should be creamy enough to spread, but not too creamy —like messy creamy. If it’s messy creamy add more beeswax, and if it’s not creamy enough add more coconut oil and honey. Do this until you find the right consistency.
Allow 24 hours for your lip balm to cool in your containers and enjoy!
