The Inklings by Humphrey Carpenter
It feels like summer has officially begun here in Winston-Salem. The days are warmer, and the sun shines longer. Fiction has taken the back seat lately while I’ve been reading The Inklings by Humphrey Carpenter. I purchased this book late last year and am now just getting around to giving it my full attention. The Inklings would discuss philosophy, but mostly their own work. In these meetings, J.R.R. Tolkien read chapters of his trilogy The Lord of the Rings, and C.S. Lewis read his working progress of The Chronicles of Narnia. They smoked pipes, poured glasses of port, and shared their imaginative work.
Reading more about The Inklings has inspired me to start an Inklings group. Our first meeting was last Friday at a local coffee shop and bar, Footnote. We discussed the anthropological implications of determinism. It was interesting to hear everyone’s response. I’ll keep you posted on future meetings and our discussions!
I’m also reading through the Psalms
and if you’re looking for daily devotions, I read Blessed Is She.
