Now that summer is in full swing and we’re welcoming friends back into our homes for intimate gatherings again, perhaps it’s time to give our humble home bars a visual revamp.
Like any other space in your home, style your bar cart with the same approach. Think about the meaning, cohesion, and contrast within the room.
Use Ingredients as Decorative Objects
Build your bar with spirits, liquors, and aperitifs you love! Arrange bottles together with varying design appeal and shapes that add visual interest. I love vintage or vintage-looking glassware—especially these glass bottles from Amazon. They’re the perfect size for homemade simple syrup and bitters.
Add Natural Elements
Placing seasonal clippings and flowers into any room will add color and texture. Think fresh flowers and foliage brimming out of a tall glass vase or small vintage vessel. Add a bowl of citrus and seasonal fruit for muddling and garnishing.
If you’ve been a reader for a while, you’ll know how much I love marble. Add a marble platter to your bar or DIY your own marble bar. The marble tray pictured above is out of stock, but I found one that looks similar from Target. You can also add marble contact paper to almost any surface. I added this marble contact paper to our current bar cart to spruce it up a bit!
Embrace the Seasons
Let the seasons be your guide for stocking your cart. For summer add Rosé and spritz or stock Crème de Violette and Citadelle Gin to make a classic Aviation. Switch out your liquor and spirits as seasons change—add different types of bourbon and whiskey to make a Hot Toddy or an Old Fashioned.
Remember, your bar cart doesn’t have to be fully stocked at all times. The key is to edit, and only include the spirits you really love. And show off only the prettiest bottles and dishes! Cheers!
