Summer has come to an end, and I can hardly believe it. There were a lot of great experiences and new changes that happened this summer…here are a few:
Good Company in Cincinnati
And quite literally, actually.
In August I began a new adventure working as a Content Strategist at Tandem. With only a few weeks in, I visited a new client in Cincinnati with two of my co-workers (watch the reel on Instagram). Downtown Cincinnati has a lot to offer city-dwellers and visitors. Of course, I was also in good company with my new co-workers—we had a blast! Here are a couple of places I highly recommend visiting:
Nicholson’s Pub – order the Shephard’s Pie, it’s delicious!
The Righteous Room – Their Old Fashioned is spot on with the classic recipe.
Sotto Cincinnati – One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had.
Igby’s – Ask for Charlie, he knows what he’s doing.
Other than my Kindle Paperwhite (because I never leave home without it) I packed The Madness of Crowds by Douglas Murray—brilliant guy—to read on the plane! I first heard about Douglas Murray on the Lex Fridman podcast #296. I haven’t finished this book yet, but it has been a breath of fresh air; a truthful look at some of the most divisive issues today. And whether or not you agree with him, you still can’t deny that he is one of the most important intellectuals of our day. But I’ll let you decide! Pick up one of his books and/or listen to the podcast I linked above!
Dates with Stephen
Even though we’ve been married for nearly 13 years, dates with Stephen are still my jam. I’m the “let’s hold hands and go out” kind of date. I don’t care where we go, I’m content if we walk, hold hands, and then perhaps a little twirl in the street before the night is over.
This summer Stephen indulged me by taking me out on several dates. We’re pretty lucky to live right around the corner from some great restaurants. Alma Mexicana is always delicious. If you haven’t been before, try the Alma Margarita—it’s my favorite. The Three Amigos is a must (great for sharing!) and I love the Las Carnitas.
I have mixed feelings about Six Hundred Degrees. On our first visit, we had cocktails and an appetizer—Aviation’s & the Spicy Cucumbers—it was delicious and a great experience! Our second visit wasn’t as impressive. I ordered the Duck Gnocchi and the flavor just wasn’t there. The cocktails were meh, too. We may have to visit a third time and hopefully, it will be better!
Cugino Forno is a weakness for us both. It’s far too easy to pick up a pizza on my walk home from the office. It’s delicious every time—order the Bianca, you can thank me later!
Another favorite that we visited again was Quanta Basta! I always order the Fire Roasted Chicken—it’s perfect every time. They offer an Aperol Spritz now too, which I love!
Walks in Old Salem
I’ve enjoyed more walks this summer, especially throughout Old Salem. I’m happy to report that the bees are doing just fine and the neighborhood has adopted a friendly cat who lays around spying on visitors, whom I’ve named Ms. Purr (to be honest, I’m not really a cat person, but Ms. Purr is really sweet).
I sometimes forget that we have this gem nestled in the heart of downtown Winston-Salem. It’s absolutely beautiful and even though it’s a stone’s throw away from downtown, it’s quiet. You’ll instantly feel you’ve stepped into another time. I’m really looking forward to autumn with cooler weather and the change in colors.
La Vin
My summer wine choices were pretty good. The B Side 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon stole the show—flavors of blackberry, leather, and smoke are notes I love with a hint of vanilla. Yum.
Barons de Rothschild Bordeaux was so good too! A Rothschild bottle for $20? It’s smooth with an elegant citrus lemon with a crisp taste. I still can’t believe the price!
The Happiest Day
Ted is married!
I was introduced to Ted through Stephen when we were dating in high school. He is THE nicest person we know—and that’s not an exaggeration. The wedding venue was beautiful. The music, setting, and guests were delightful. His wife, Gretchen, was the most beautiful, radiant bride too! We loved every minute.
Go Vote!
I was walking to work one morning and randomly ran into Leonardo Feldman from NewsMax! It was so much fun being interviewed by him and sharing who I voted for!
Voting is one of the most beautiful rights we have in the US—don’t take it for granted! Go vote!
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May
Overall each month I was blessed with exciting new changes and experiences with consistent love & support from Stephen. We were blessed to become an aunt and uncle again! In August I found an amazing home at a new company. I traded in my fun pink hair for my signature dark locks (It was fun while it lasted and I have no regrets, but it’s nice to be back to my normal color)! I traveled a lot and cherished home even more.
I can’t wait to experience what Autumn brings :)
Happy Autumn,
