I celebrated twenty-nine wonderful years on July 9th. The day began with coffee and a mission to bake an allergy/sensitivity free cake and by some miracle I did it. For a girl who hasn’t enjoyed dairy, egg, gluten, wheat or soy for years it tasted like a real birthday cake—although I’m certain others probably thought it tasted like chocolate icing spread on a sponge *giggles*
The rest of the day was a surprise because most of our plans fell through. Our local flea market was cancelled (such a bummer!) and most antique shops were closed! So we did what any sensible late twenties couple does: we made our way over to Trader Joe’s and stocked up on delicious champagne, laced our dancing shoes and promptly went Swing Dancing.
We met some dear friends there and laughed our way throughout the dance floor. Afterward we met more friends here at the cottage and celebrated with cake and champagne. We had no idea the candles were trick candles and refused to properly blow out. You can watch a short video I made via Instagram (it’s the one that looks like a cake is on fire, ha!).
I have lived the best twenty-nine years a girl could hope for—but this thought happens every year:
“Wow, twenty-eight is great!”… “I’m twenty-nine and feeling fine!”
The recipe for an excellent life is to make it excellent. It’s that simple.
Oh, add a dash of sweet family + a pinch of the best friends and you’re golden!
