I know we’re still in July, but autumn is coming I honestly can’t wait. I’m crocheting two blankets right now, so when I magically appeared in the yarn aisle at Hobby Lobby I had to ask myself, “Amber what are you doing here?” There were so many pretty skeins of yarn I decided to make this pillow for a friend!
One blanket I’m crocheting is a bit intense, in skill and time. Sometimes it’s good to take a break and work on something easier. This pillow took me four days to complete; it feels nice finishing a project so fast! If you have a basic knowledge of crochet you can make this pillow in a few days as well. Let’s get started!
You will need to know how to chain and double crochet. For hand sewing the triangles together you will need to know how to slip stitch with a yarn needle. For this project I used a J 6.00mm hook. There are four different triangle colors: apricot, fleece, truffle and blue jean by the Yarn Bee. There are 48 triangles and 12 half triangles for this project. 24 triangles and 6 half triangles for each side.
Triangle pattern:
Row 1: Chain 3 (this will always count as first double crochet), 1 double crochet in first chain, turn. (You will have 2 double crochet posts)
Row 2: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch, 1 double crochet, turn. (You will have 3 double crochet posts)
Row 3: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch, 2 double crochet. (4 double crochet posts)
Row 4: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch, 3 double crochet. (5 double crochet posts.)
Row 5: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch, 4 double crochet. (6 double crochet posts)
Row 6: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch, 5 double crochet. (7 double crochet posts)
Row 7: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch, 6 double crochet. (8 double crochet posts)
Row 8: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch, 7 double crochet. (9 double crochet posts)
Row 9: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch, 8 double crochet. (10 double crochet posts)
Half Triangle pattern:
Row 1: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch (2 double crochet posts)
Row 2: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch, 1 double crochet (3 double crochet posts)
Row 3: Chain 3, 2 double crochet (3 double crochet posts)
Row 4: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch, 2 double crochet (4 double crochet posts)
Row 5: Chain 3, 3 double crochet (4 double crochet posts)
Row 6: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch, 3 double crochet ( 5 double crochet posts)
Row 7: Chain 3, 4 double crochet (5 double crochet posts)
Row 8: Chain 3, 1 double crochet in same chain stitch, 4 double crochet (6 double crochet posts
Row 9: Chain 3, 5 double crochet (6 double crochet posts)
After you’ve made all your triangles lay them out the way you want your pillow to look, then hand sew them together using a slip stitch. Once both pillow sides are made, lay the outside of the pillow on the inside and slip stitch together. Leave a hole big enough for your hand to turn the pillow inside out and stuff with cotton or a pillow form. Stitch hole and you’re finished!
Leave any questions in the comments and I’ll try to answer as best as I can. I hope you make one, there’s nothing like a homemade pillow to make your space cozy. Happy nesting!
P.S. I’m sharing how I made our crate bookshelf tomorrow, see you then!
